CERC Community Leads the Way for Earth Day

The CERC Community invites you to join them in celebrating Earth Day on Thursday, April 22, 2021.

Twenty million people, around 10% of the U.S. population, participated in the first Earth Day. Before 1970, air pollution represented profitability, and disposing of toxic waste in local water sources was common practice. The first Earth Day sparked change in America, leading to new environmental legislation including the Clean Air and Clean Waters Acts.

We may be limited as to what we can do this year to celebrate Earth Day due to COVID-19, but there are still great ways that we can celebrate our planet.

  1. Spend time outside - Take a walk, go on a hike, ride your bike and enjoy the native plants and nature around you.

  2. Learn about recyclable materials and research which materials are accepted by your community.

  3. Purchase your household essentials from a sustainable brand, and try getting produce from a local farmer’s market.

  4. Watch a documentary about Earth and our environment.

  5. Donate old clothing and household items.

  6. Open your windows to enjoy some fresh, spring air.

  7. Calculate your carbon footprint          and see where you can improve.

  8. Stop wasting food, start composting instead.

  9. Plant a garden - flowers, fruits & vegetables, or herbs.

  10. Build a birdhouse with recycled materials

About CERC

Certified Environmentally Responsible Contractors (CERC) is a certification program that aims to promote environmentally responsible contractors by helping them stand out from the lesser-qualified competition and win more bids. Contractors can become certified by establishing an environmental risk management plan through broadened pollution insurance and Pollution Prevention Practices provided by Environmental Risk Professionals. Communities can feel confident no adverse pollution impacts will be left behind or unaddressed when a project is completed by a CERC.
